Baxter goal welcomes Scholes | Ronan starts strong | Virtue debuts

Jose Baxter has helped ensure that new Oldham Athletic manager, Paul Scholes, got his tenure off to the perfect start.

The 27-year-old midfielder became the first player to find the back of the net for the new gaffer, scoring at the end of the first half against Yeovil Town.

Oldham went on to win the game 4-1, taking them up to 11th in Football League 2. Baxter and Scholes next match will be against

Ronan starts strong

A friendly it may have been, but Connor Ronan has made a positive first impression at his new club Dunajska Streda, scoring in the side’s 3-0 win over SV Mattersburg.

The 20-year-old striker beat the keeper at the near post in a clinical finish, but will now be quick to turn his attention to a potential debut this weekend.

Dunajska Streda will host Super Liga leaders Slovan Bratislava in a top of the table clash, with Connor’s team eying an opportunity to narrow the eight-point gap between the two.

From the Pitch Rep team, good luck for your first official game Connor!

Virtue debuts

It’s been a fast-paced start for Matty Virtue at new club Blackpool, immediately making his first team debut off the bench and a full debut the following match.

Following his move from Liverpool at the end of the January transfer window, Matty made his first appearance when he came off the bench against Walsall. His part in the 2-0 win not only won him some praise from his Coach, but also a start against Sunderland a few days later.

Speaking about Matty and fellow debutant Nathan Delfouneso, Blackpool Manager Ian Dawes was pleased with his new players’ performances.

“I thought it was a perfect introduction for the both of them," said Dawes.

“I thought they both came on at the right time and they both had a good impact at a time where we were losing a bit of security and a little bit of possession.

“They didn’t look like they were making their debuts which is probably the biggest compliment I can give them - they looked like they had been playing all season.

“I expect good things from the both of them.”

Matty and Blackpool's next match is against Charlton on Saturday.
