Kieran Trippier has been recalled to the England squad for two Euro 2020 qualifiers in the upcoming international break.
It continues an increasingly bright start to the 2019-20 season for Trippier, since moving to Atlético Madrid during the summer transfer window.
The Three Lions play Bulgaria and Kosovo in the second week of September and have a further six games in the build-up to the Euro Championship.
Trippier completed a successful pre-season with Atlético and has received wide-spread praise for his first two La Liga games with the Spanish giants.
Trippier provided the assist in their 1-0 season opener, and has played a pivotal role in making sure that Atlético’s defences are yet to be breached in La Liga.
England Manager Gareth Southgate attended Trippier’s most recent match against Leganes, and has clearly been impressed with what he’s seen of the 28-year-old so far this season.
With four viable options at right-back, Southgate said it was tough to drop Kyle Walker and acknowledged he has tough selection decisions to make going forward.
“We also want to reintegrate Kieran Trippier into the group to know he’s still on our radar.
“It’s an area of the pitch where we have a lot of quality. Kyle started the season really well so I explained the situation to him. They all have different strengths.”
An early sign that Trippier’s transfer to Atlético was the right decision.
From everyone at Pitch, congratulations on the recall Kieran!
