Right-back Kieran Trippier is heading to La Liga, with the Pitch Representation client joining heavyweights Atlético Madrid on a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur.
Atlético de Madrid came second to Barcelona in the 2018-19 La Liga season and have previously won the competition 10 times, most recently in 2013-14. They’ve also appeared in two Champions League Finals in the last five years.
Trippier trained with the team on Wednesday evening, having flown into Madrid earlier in the day. The 28-year-old, who starred in the 2018 Football World Cup for England, was full of praise for his new club and manager.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Trippier said of completing his move.
“I’ve always wanted to play abroad, and what a place to play in Madrid. It’s a fantastic team and an unbelievable manager and I’m looking forward to getting into it.
“They’ve been to some major finals, they’ve done well in La Liga over the years. They’ve got a quality team.
“I can’t wait to learn off the manager and help this team to success in the future. I like to win and I’ll give it 110 percent every game.”
The move was applauded by a number of pundits, who praised the timing of Trippier's transfer.
Trippier said farewell to Spurs from his Instagram account after four years with the North London club.
From all the team at Pitch Rep: Congratulations Kieran and good luck in Madrid!
